How to ask my 21 yr old male friend of five years if he feels the same way

I want to know how to explain that it has been a long friendship and I want to take it to the next level without scaring him off even though he has a girlfriend. I know I should wait till things "Taper Off" between him and his current girlfriend before anything more happens between us. I want to know how to get him to explain to me about his feelings towards me( I get the impression that he wants to be close as freinds but I want to know if he wants to be more than friends). Please help because he make me the happiest out of my other relationships with guys I had.

Tell him how you feel.

Tell him you have developed feelings for him and you wonder how he feels about you. Make it clear that you are not trying to break up his current relationship. You just want to know how things stand with him.

Since he is such a good friend he should be willing to be open with you.
