Gettin over my sons mother

Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Male
First off I want to apologize if this has already been covered but I tried searching and couldn’t find what I was looking for.

My question/concern is that I can’t seem to get over my Ex-girlfriend. I mean I understand that it takes time but this is different then any other brake up that I have had. My ex is also the mother of my 2 year old son who I have custody of. It was a very bitter brake up along with a very bitter custody battle but after all that I still miss her. It’s been already been 10 months since we separated after 3 years together.
I guess my question is how do I get over somebody that I can not sever ties with? I have to see her at least twice a week for her visitations. She already has another love in her life. We are very bitter to one another and per our lawyers we only speak to each other threw emails. (Pick up times, locations...ECT)
We have a lot of animosity towards each other. I try to think of all the bad times and move on. But deep down in the back of my mind I just plain miss her and wish we could start again.
I'm afraid that this will be heartache for the rest of our son's life.
Thank you for your time and any advice you can give.

RomanceClass.com Advice
My advice is to think that getting back together is a long term goal.

The way things are now it's just not going to happen... it's too soon and feelings are too strong.

And by looking at the long term you will feel your sadness less... and your boy will grow to understand or accept the way things are.

Your ex may change her feelings as she misses her son more and more.

Best wishes! George
