My ex boyfriend was amazing. He hugged me all the time. He told me I was the most beautiful girl he'd ever met and he never wanted us to break up or at least not for a long time. We'd kissed. Then one day, he suddenly called me up and said he didn't think things were going to work out. He said he wasn't ready for a bf.gf relationship, then said things went to fast(he picked the pace), then said he wasn't ready for another girlfriend, but maybe we could pick things up again later. I miss him a lot and I am desprate to have him back!!!

Don't give up hope but don't be desperate either.
Being desperate is not good for you and will not bring him back.
Try to be pleasant and happy. He will see you in a better light that way. It is more likely that he will come back if you are smiling not frowning.
Meanwhile, have fun with other boys. That will make you more attractive.
