I want to talk to him

I like this guy at uni but whenever i see him i get so nervous i want to smile and say hi to him but i can't, i want to go and try to ask him something, just to break the ice but i feel so awkward.I don't know what he studies and don't have anything to say to him. I find this really hard. What should i do? I don't want to waste time. Please help.

The key is smiling. Put a big smile on your face, look him in the eyes, and say in a clear voice "Hi" plus his name. Do this a few times and he will soon be comfortable with you and you with him. Then you can start talking about school. Ask him what classes he takes, what his major is, when he expects to graduate.
Everyone feels awkward at first, but it is like anything (example, playing a piano) -- you have to go through the awkward stage before playing at a higher level. So keep practicing and pretty soon things will flow smoothly.
