What's your opinion on this?
Is there a chance that a relationship with a handsome man who you've known for years work when you're not beautiful? Or are the odds not great, as there are a lot of other women always after their good looks?

There are tons of very good looking people who love and care deeply for "normal-looking" folks. As you've probably heard, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It might sound like just a cliche, but it is also true in many instances. :)
In your situation, you need to ask yourself what this handsome man is like. What is his history with girls - does he only go for the real hotties? Is he a player? Or does he get into long relationships and become close friends with his partner? Someone's past usually indicates how they will be in the future.
That said, people can also learn to change for the better. Maybe his history with shallow girls has left him feeling empty for something real. Or maybe he thinks you are beautiful just the way you are.
If the signs seem right, and he is a fine person (besides just being cute,) then no reason not to go for it!
