Getting Mixed Signals

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
My friend has been flirting with me for over a year now. It wasn't until this school year that I took him more seriously.
I know he cares about what I think, but he's a bit dense.
He promised to do something for me, but it doesn't seem like he thinks that that promise is that important to me.
When he finds something more interesting to do, then he leaves me alone/ignores me. He also tends to joke around most of the time, even when I'm trying to be serious. It's only when I refuse to talk to him that he becomes serious.
Should I continue to "wait" for him, pursue him, or just get on with my life?
*Thanks in advance for the advice!

I'd get on with your life. He isn't being fair to you - it sounds like he likes having you around just in case he doesn't have a better plan in mind. You deserve far, far better than that.
