My Boyfriend is a Jerk!

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
I've been going out with my boyfriend for pretty close to a month now. We're close, and I really like him a lot. But before we went out he liked one of my friends and I knew that but before we went out I thought he had stopped. But then last night my boyfriend was talking to that girl on the phone and she told him that if he had asked her out she would have said yes. And you know what he said, he said "crap now I think I shouldn't have asked (me) out!!"

I dunno what to do, I'm afraid now that he'll break up with me.

Wow, I have to say honestly, he is a JERK!! What a thing to say! When you date someone you make a commitment to THAT PERSON. There are always "better people" out there if you are going to be shallow like that. There are always going people who are more sexy, or who are richer, or who have a bigger house, or who know Justin Timberlake, or whatever it is that appeals to you. That does NOT mean you "jump ship" ever chance you get!! A relationship is about making a commitment to someone and then making it work. If your boyfriend is capable of running off the second anything else looks "better" then he's going to be that way to ANY girl he is with, and I would definitely not want to be either his current or his potential ditch-mate.

I know you care about him, but really, you can never change a person. If someone is shallow like that, they are simply SHALLOW. And they are going to continue to be shallow. It might be best to find yourself a new, REAL boyfriend right now before you get even more attached to him and he hurts you seriously. Tell him that he's obviously not ready to date yet if he is so shallow and if he wants to hurt yet ANOTHER girl in such a short period of time, that is his own slimy nature to do so.
