We really do like each other, and don't want to put up with the harassment we get.

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
**Names have been changed**
Alright- I'm in quite a jam. I was best friends (practically sisters) with this girl for two years. We'll call her Mary. Mary and I were really close, even though she's a year younger than me. I dated one of Mary's close guy friends off and on for about 6 months, and I thought he was my "true love". Well, this guy dumped me.. and 4 days later, she dragged me along on a blind date. She met this guy there. We'll call him Nick. Well Nick kinda liked liked Mary, but he was more attracted to me. She talked him into going out with her, and they went out for about 2 weeks. This was Mary's first boyfriend in three years, so we were all excited for her. But, I always kind of had a thing for Nick. Well, Nick broke up with her, and she was heartbroken. I knew how it had felt, so I got her flowers and candy and put them in her locker before school. Then- About three months later, she heard a rumour that Nick and I were going to go to a movie together and do stuff. He and I were going to go to a movie, but just as friends. She then completly cut me off, told my X BF, and I had people chewing me out and calling me a bad friend. Well, two months later- Nick and I are very much attracted to each other. Mary and I don't talk much, but.. I don't like everyone to be mad at me. Nick and I have talked about having a relationship, and it's something we both want. I don't want to hurt Mary, although we're not still close. Mary is still obsessed with Nick, even though he's made it very clear that he's not interested in her. She's become so obsessive that he finds it hard to even be friends. She calls him frequently, and he doesn't answer the phone. What should Nick and I do? We really do like each other, and don't want to put up with the harassment we get. {Actually, I get most of it, Nick goes to a different school where the people like me but don't like Mary.} Please help. I really need someone else's advice!
Thanks-
Reese

RomanceClass.com Advice
I would say that the two of you should pursue a relationship if it's what both of you want. Don't let other people determine your life. I know it may be tough for Mary, but people around her will understand her obsession is unhealthy and will hopefully stop badgering you as a result.

It's almost summertime, and everyone's attention will be taken up with summer things. You should have some breathing room before next year starts, and when it does, people should care less about what you are doing and will care more about their own issues.

Good luck!
