now that my boyfriend doesn't like the other girl anymore he has told me that he wants to go back out. does he really still like me when he told me he didn't a week ago? should i go back out with him?

Good for you. My advice is to go out with him. He was confused and deserves a chance now that he has made up his mind. However, keep in the back of your mind that he might do it again. Keep communicating with him on this subject so that you are not surprised.
