One day she'll say hi to me and hug me and the next she'll break plans

Visitor's Question from a 16-20 year old Male
I have this friend who I just told I had feelings for. She has a boyfriend now and said it was better I told her. Does this mean that if things don't work out with her boyfriend we can be together? I don't think I can be friedns with her knowing that nothing will ever happen between us. My feelings are just too strong for her. I think about her constantly. Should I talk to her and ask is there is ever a chance for us? I really need to be with her or not be her friend at all. It's become too painful. Also she sends me very mixed signals. One day she'll say hi to me and hug me and the next she'll break plans and seem like she wnats nothing to do with me. Please Help
