I'm 17 years old and I met a 38 year old online

Visitor's Question from a 16-20 year old Female
I'm 17 years old and I met a 38 year old online. We've been talking for over 2 years and at the end of December 04 we met. We got along great, and we couldn't keep our hands off each other. The thing is we live over 1,000 miles apart. We are deeply in love with each other, we talk several times a day on the phone and via instant messanger. We talk about our future plans and how we are going to spend the rest of our lives together. We always end a conversation with an "I love you." This guy plans to move to where I am by the Spring time 06. Am I making a right deicision about this. This is the first relationship I have been in, but I want this more than anything, and we both truely feel something here. And when should I start telling my family about the guy of my dreams?

RomanceClass.com Advice
Your family will probably be quite upset by the fact that you want to have a relationship with a guy 21 years older than you. And since you have been hiding this from them since you were 15 will make them even more upset.

You ask whether you are making the right decision. There is no way for me to say except by knowing a lot more about the guy. But you might ask yourself why would a normal 38 year old be interested in a 17 year old? Or ask yourself why you are throwing away all the chances to be a normal teenager? Or wonder what it will be like at 19 to be with a 40 year old, or as a 29 year old being with a 50 year old. Has the guy been married before and if so how many times? Is he financially stable? Does he have kids? Do you know everything about him or is he hiding details?

There are a lot more questions you should be asking yourself. But the biggest hurdle you have to face is your parents and how they respond.

Good luck! George
