True love isn't the kind that endures through long years of absence, but the kind that endures through long years of propinquity. -- Helen Rowland

I am way too shy

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
hi
I really like this guy and so does my best friend, but she doesn't know that I like him too. The thing is that I never tell anyone who I like. I am just really afraid that if I start telling people who I like that the guy will find out and I feel like if he finds out I won't even have a chance. Anyway, the first time I saw the guy, I was in seventh grade. He didn't really know me and I was too shy to talk to him. Through the year I tried to talk to him more, but I didn't become his friend or anything. He knew who I was and everything, but we barely talked. Whenever I saw him with another girl I felt really sad and forgotten. I am now in the eigth grade and still have a crush on the same guy. So does my best friend and she still doesn't know I like him too. I have three classes with him and in my 3rd period I could go up and talk to him, but I am way too shy. he's always around this girl and always talking to her. For a while I thought that he liked her, but I just found out that he likes one of my friends that's in the same class. I couldn't believe it. I feel like he would like me if he only knew me, but I am just too shy. It's not only that though because I do talk to him sometimes but then I feel like I'm saying all the wrong things and feel really stupid. Even if he does start to like me and we become a couple, my best friend might get mad at me, but I really want him to be my boyfriend! What do I do?
P.S. I'm sorry I wrote so much. PLEASE HELP!!!

RomanceClass.com Advice
First off you should tell your friend that you like this boy that she likes too.

It's better to be honest about it rather than let her find out some other way.

You are in eighth grade and naturally you are shy. Almost everyone is to one degree or another. You have to do what others have to do... and that is to practice, practice, practice developing your social skills. Especially social skills with boys.

Don't worry if something you say sounds stupid to you. The other person probably won't even notice because they are trying to think about how to respond. After practicing a lot you will discover that you aren't shy anymore.

You don't want to be shy for the rest of your life. Of course not! So whenever you see this boy look him in the eyes, say hi plus his name and give him a big smile. He will certainly notice you and that could lead to more.

Give it a try! George
