Say that you saw it and knew they'd love it, so you bought it simply as a friendship gift. Don't get anything flashy that looks like a "come back to me because you're guilty about accepting this" gift. Usually the person will be insulted that you tried to buy them like a prostitute. Instead, choose tender gifts that say more that "I really understand what you like, and thought of you when I saw this".
