It is critically important to separate the issues of "I want to get married" and "I want to have kids". It may be that you two are arguing heatedly about one - when the real issue is the other one. If someone really just wants to get married because it is the "stepping stone" to having kids, then you need to discuss the kids part. To argue about the stepping stone is pretty silly.
