Choose a casual, fun spot
The first meeting WILL be nerve-racking. So don't do it in a crowded, noisy bar! Don't do it somewhere that one person feels at home and the other person feels a stranger. Choose somewhere casual, fun, somewhere you both can feel relaxed while you get to know each other.
And Italian restaurant with big comfy booths is perfect, or a lounge where you can hang out for a few drinks. You don't want lots of people watching you - you'll be nervous enough just wondering what each other is thinking. You definitely don't want any friends or family around. You don't want to have to shout over the noise or worry about which fork to use.
Save the fancy dinners and long introductions for later on. For the first meeting, keep it VERY comfy.
