From Friend to Lover

Visitor's Question:
This girl that i have liked for a long time now has just finally broken up with her boyfriend. I consider her to be my best friend and i know she feels the same way. we are very close and tell each other everything. she always came to me when she would fight with her boyfriend and i would help her out the best i could. She still comes to me about getting over her boyfriend but i dont know what to tell her. she doesnt know that i like her though or at least she doesnt know how much.

i would love to go out with her since i have been waiting for a while but i know its gonna take time. i think that she has feelings for me as well in some shape or form but i dont know how deep they are. im also worried that even though she may have these feelings that she might not want to "ruin our friendship".

so basically my questions are:

1) what do i tell her to help her get over her ex?
2) how do i let her know how i feel without scaring her
away?
3) how can i make sure that i dont have to worry about
her thinking that a relationship with me will "ruin our
friendship"?

Our Suggestion:
I have a whole how-to on going from friend to boyfriend-girlfriend

this is a VERY very common situation, and the best of relationships start out in this manner. And they all have that same fear - of harming a best-friendship by moving it forward. But since it creates just about the PERFECT kind of relationship you could hope for, it is well worth the risk. Even if it doesn't work, great friendships don't get harmed by that. And if it DOES work, the result is just amazing.
