She's Breaking Up, When do I Make my Move?

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
i have a small problem. theres this girl in school, who i like. and she likes me. she has a boyfriend, but he is leavin cuz hes movin out. they had a great relationship, but its over. she says hes leavin at the end of summer.

so i hafta ask since summer will seperate us from contact, what should i do as soon as summer braek ends. i need to know when to make my move. should i tell her how i feel about her, she prolly knows, but ive never told her directly, what should i do, do u think this sounds good, were already friends, and i never tried to break their relationship, ive always respected it, but it is ending, she told me so.

Our Suggestion:
First, it's great that you let her break up on her own and stayed by her as a friend. This gives her a GREAT sense of security about you - that you're someone who really cares about her, who puts her needs before your own and who will stand by her. That's exactly what a girl looks for in a guy.

When you get back with her, be a friend first and foremost. She might be over rebound by then or she might still be deep in rebound. Get a sense of where she is at and give her time to heal and be ready for another relationship. If you dive in too soon, she'll date you and then leave you when the rebound part finishes, which you wouldn't like much.

I wouldn't just blurt out your innermost feelings. Take it slowly. She'll be a little wary of new relationships, and also concerned about harming the friendship you guys have. I have a how-to on taking this slow -
