How to get close again

Visitor's Question:
Well this really is about getting close to a friend again. A year and a half ago we had a new guy come to work. He and I were closer in age then anyone working at our job. It wasn't long befeore we became very close friends. We told each other everything. We hung out all of the time. Our job completely closed we were both devastated. his last day was in november and when he left he was very clear on us remaining friends no matter what. We talked every week. He would suggest getting together to catch up even more. he never came through. he had never acted this way before. We would exchange emails all of the time and then in late Feb he slowed the calls and emails. One sat night he text me and ended up telling me he had feelings for me. I told him i knew what he was saying. Up until that point nothing was ever said. we really were just very close friends. We both agreed nothing other than a friendship could be possible. i am married and he is with someone. I had always kept my feelings for him inside. I would never cheat on my husband. However, I do miss my friend very much. After that night I have heard nothing and it's very hurtful. I feel like I have lost my best friend that i have had since birth even though we were only friends for 1.5 years. I tried emailing him to ask what happened but I haven't heard a word. I have read pages and pages on you site but can't seem to find a solution.

Our Suggestion:
It's nice that you had such a close friendship.

If you haven't told your husband already, you should do it now.

Then contact your friend and tell him that you still need his friendship.

Friendship may be more than he can bear if he feels very strongly for you. If that's the case then there's not much you can do.

Good luck! George
