We're long distance and I'm scared

Visitor's Question:
I met this guy when I was out visiting a friend who lives across the country. I was really quiet around all of her friends because all of her guy friends were hitting on me and stuff so I didn't want to really get too talkative with them. The one guy though just would talk to me and try to get me to laugh. He asked for my email and so I gave it to him...about 3 weeks later he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes. It was so quick but I was just thinking that he obviously cares for me if he's 2 years older and wants to have a long distance relationship. We seem to have a lot in common, but I'm so scared for when he goes to University in the fall. I asked him if he wanted this to just be a summer thing and he said no he wants it to last longer so I'm thinking he really cares for me. I would just like to know what you think of this and if you have any ideas for this to keep going strong. Thanks so much!

Our Suggestion:
A long distance romance is not easy to maintain.

You will have to try especially hard to build a strong relationship. The way to do this is to communicate regularly and with sincerity (humor is good too); also, build trust by sharing deep and hidden feelings; and finally, by being as affectionate as you can be long distance... compliment him, tell him you care about him.

Don't be too aggressive about this... slowly increase things as you feel more and more comfortable with him. Make him your best friend.

Good luck! George
