how to say i'm sorry

Visitor's Question:
about 2 years ago, i "fell in love" with this girl who was my friend at the time, and when i told her how i felt, she completely ignored me. I can't say that i blame her. we were only in 7th grade, and the feelings i had must've scared her half to death. i tried going for other girls, but the fact that i screwed up in the worst way has been eating away at me all this time. I poured my bleeding heart out to her without considering how she felt and all i want is for her to know that i'm sorry. but as much as the both of us have grown, i'm scared she still won't listen. how can i ask for another chance or at least let her know i've acknowledged my mistake and i'm sorry? I can't go on in life knowing my first "love" hates me.

Our Suggestion:
It is very unlikely that she hates you.

Write her a letter explaining that you realize you screwed up and want her to know you are sorry for doing it.

Tell her you are going to start saying hi to her in the hall and that you would feel good if she said hello back to you.

Don't get carried away in the letter... keep it short since you don't want to screw up a second time with her.

Good luck! George
