I like my ex's best friend

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I'm 18, and my best friend is 19, we'll call him Bob. I met him 1 1/2 years ago and we have been really close ever since. We have always liked eachother but never dated. Then I met someone else, who happened to be Bob's best friend. He was home on leave from the Army. We'll call him Frank. Frank and I started dating and everything. We have been together for the past 16 months. But just broke up. He has been gone for most of the time, being in the Army and all. In the mean time, Bob and I got to know eachother and at one point he actually even told me he loves me. Now that Frank and I are broken up, I would like to try to date Bob. But I don't want to hurt Frank. Bob and I have been unseperable since we met, we are a lot alike and care for eachother deeply. He makes me feel wonderful.. and I still get butterflies every time I call or see him. Even though I've known him so long. I think he's the one. But I'm not sure how to tell. He knows me really well, we tell eachother everything. What should I do? Do you think that Bob is the one?

Our Suggestion:
The "best friend problem" is not unusual. After all, best friends tend to be similar and also hang out together so you become close to the best friend.

One solution is to have Bob call Frank and break the news to him. Perhaps Frank would feel better hearing it from his friend. This is my advice.

Good luck! George
