Saying "Hi"

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
there's this in my year at school who ive never really spoken to, but despite that i can't stop thinking about her. I have a low self esteem and i dont have the confidence to talk to her. I'm too scared i'll do something stupid. Anyway i believe she feels the same as she was obviously trying to talk to me at a party and she was staring at me in a lesson fo around 10 minutes the day befor. when she and her friend would walk pass, her friend would talk to mine leaving me and her standing next to eachother, the tension was unbearable.I'm moving schools at the end of the year and i know i'll probobly never see her again. I've got to somehow tell her how i feel

Our Suggestion:
Don't be afraid you will do something stupid.

Why? Because you are sure to do something stupid. Expect it to happen. This is what forming a relationship is all about... the willingness to make stupid mistakes in front of someone, apologize and move on.

An easy way to start talking to her is to greet her whenever you see her in the hall. Look her in the eyes, say in a clear voice "hi" plus her name, and then give her a big smile. The first few times she might not be brave enough to answer you but I guarantee you that by the third time she will be saying hi to you. Then it's a simple step to start talking with her.

Then you can tell her how you feel when you are ready.

Remember, once you start saying hello, don't stop or she will wonder what's wrong with herself. That would make her uncomfortable.

Good luck! George
