How can I find a girlfriend?

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Here's the deal. I'm a 19 year old college student who has a lot of goals in life, stays away from drugs/alcohol/parties, and has a good head on his shoulders. I've been in relationships, but they were never serious. I'm jelious of what my brother has, which is a steady girlfriend that has all the features I want in a girl. I would love to find a girl who doesn't get drunk and has goals in life, but that seems rare in my area. I'm not afraid to talk to people, but when it comes to an attractive girl, I can't find any words to say and instantly get nervous. I want to be able to be confident and approach women so I can find someone. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thank you.

Our Suggestion:
One thing girls value very highly is intelligence.

Read the campus paper, a state or city paper, and a weekly newsmagazine... all of this either on or offline. When you meet an attractive girl, bring up a topic of interest such as Iraq, the election campaign, or economics. Or even something fun or funny. Don't make her feel uneasy about it... bring up the topic and if she seems unaware or uneducated then give her your viewpoint of what's going on or what might happen. Decide who your candidate is and be prepared to say why.

Not only will the girls be impressed, you will feel empowered by your knowledge. You will feel less nervous. Naturally, you need to make small talk or else you are fried fish. Practice with friends and do the usual how's your family, where are you from, etc etc. Practice, practice, practice.

There are tons of attractive girls looking for someone with goals... the kind of girl you want will not be found at parties, so you need to seek them out. Look in your campus paper or handbook to see what is going on like clubs, drama, music, arts, sports (co-ed volleyball), you name it. There will be the sober, sensible girls you are looking for.

It will get easier and easier the more girls you approach or get introduced to.

Good luck! George
