Visitor's Question:
We have dated for about 6 years and have lived together for 5 of those. We have been engaged for a about a year and a half.We have had a really good relationship until he told me a month ago that he did not love me and wanted to break off the wedding and separate all together. I did not understand and he was not saying much. For the past 6 months he has become distant and has been very verbaly abusive to me without reason. I just dealt with it and gave him space thinking it was stress from work and the wedding. 4 wks after he broke up with me I found out he as been cheating on me for several months. I confronted him with the girl. Luckely the girl was ver nice and told me everything as she though he was single. My exfiance and I still live together but I am in the process of moving out. He acts like he may want to fix things between us and I honestly still do love him. I just went from being ingaged to being dumped to being cheated on all in one month. What do you recommend I do. Do I wait for him. He has never cheated on me before. But, I do realize that what he has done is very serious and wrong. help!!!!!

Our Suggestion:
Cheating is always very serious and wrong. You are wise to be stepping away from him at this point.

Before weddings, engaged people occasionally participate in bizarre behavior. This is probably induced by the "permanancy" of marriage and the fear in some that they are making an absolute committment for the rest of their lives.

That being said, there is no excuse for what he did. Continue to separate from his and see what develops. If you two still love each other, there is no reason why you can't get back together again someday.

Some people say "once a cheater, always a cheater." On the other hand, there is the possibility that he has learned from his mistake. Try to determine which of these is most likely true and act accordingly.

Good luck! George
