Would Houdini make a good boyfriend?

Visitor's Question:
I've been with my boyfriend just 2 months but it has been a rollercoaster from the beginning. Our 1st date lasted a week and then he disappeared for a week. This has proved to be a pattern for the whole relationship. Sometimes he will text me but rarely will he text me first and I can't remember the last time he phoned me. He just seems to disappear like Houdini. But then when he reappears its all good again and we laugh and joke and I remember why I fell in love with him in the first place, then he'll tell me he wants to marry me and that he loves me and I begin to doubt myself.

I want a guy to be there for me, who will answer my calls, reply to my texts and see me when its convenient to me as well as him. It just feels so one sided at the moment. Am I asking to much? Should I just chill out about it and stop being paranoid and accept that I'm dating Houdini.

I've tried talking to him about it but by the time I see him again he is so nice and we have such a good time that I don't want to ruin the mood. Plus once when he didn't bother turning up I didn't bother to text him, he sent me a message the next night asking if I 'was in a mood again' which I felt was totally unfair as I'm quite a chilled out person and he had stood me up. I thought I was entitled to be a bit peed off. So I don't really want to confront him too much.

Another spanner in the works is that I have just been offered a job in a near by city. If I commute there it would be a 2 hours round trip every day. The only reason to stay here is him. Should I stick it out and see if it gets better or should I cut my losses and run?

Our Suggestion:
It's not going to get better, even if he gets down on his knees and swears it.

He is a habit of living the way he does and that includes no respect for you. He seems to also be a Romeo and probably sweet talks his way around his bad personality.

Move to the new job. If he cares about you, he will commute to see you. I doubt that he will. It would be a killer of a commute for you.

Run like the wind! George
