Visitor's Question: i am a 16 year old virgin and my boyfriend is 17 and we have been dating for a lil over three months...lately the subject of sex has been popping up everywhere...even when i try to watch tv to take my mind off of it everything has been talking about people's first times...ive talked to him about it but he didnt give me a precise opinion...first he said maybe its a sign saying that im ready and then he said maybe its just all in my head and im over analyzing this...but it has been going on for about two weeks...my boyfriend is not a virgin and has been with about 6 other girls in his past...we talk about if and when we will have sex but he hasnt pressured me or anything...i was once close to having sex with one of my ex boyfriends...we had been going on and off for about a year or two...at the time we werent going out but we were "talking"...i had decided that after new years last year i would seriously considered having sex with him...i never told him but thankfully i didnt because i ended up finding out on new years eve that he started goin out with another girl...i was soo angry because i was so convinced he had changed and we were going to be toghether and at how close i had almost come...soo because of that i have my "one year rule" saying that if a boy can stay with me for over a year with no breakups, cheating, or serious problems that i will think about it (jus to be safe and sure)...chris is oookkk with it i guess...but lately ive been wondering if i can hold out that long...im not saying im planning on having sex anytime soon but i am wondering am i ready to SERIOUSLY think about the next step??? Our Suggestion: You should wait until you are ready and sure. Only then think seriously about the next step. You idea of a 12 month trial sounds like a good one--remember what happened last time.
