Is it OK to be single in this world?

Visitor's Question:
I am a 28 year old guy who has been single now for almost exactly 2 years (the actual "aniversary" is mid Febuary, it's now early Jan). I have not even had a date or even kissed a girl/woman in that time (which leads me ot my first question: at what stage should I stop calling females "girls" and start calling them "woman"?).... My last (and to be honest first "real") relationship was in retrospect more of a 3-month-long Summer "Holliday romance" that ended the day after Valentine's day, when she confessed to cheating on me.
At 28 I seem to be at that stage of life when all my friends are getting married and/or having children.
(Due to a medical condition there is a slight chance that I may not be able to have children of my own.)
To be honest I'm starting to feel like I'm falling behind in the scheme of things.
I guess what I'm trying to get to is for someone to give me some reassurance that it IS OK to be single, that being in a relationship is not the be-all and end-all.

Our Suggestion:
I did some research on the Internet and found that somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of all households did not contain married people. That would indicate that it isn't unusual to be single. Of course you mostly notice the couples because that is what you are worried about.

Since there are so many single people out there, you should, with some effort, be able to find a partner. Just don't set your standards too high. Like most guys, you can't count on finding perfection.

Speaking of "guys" you asked about when to start calling "girls" "women." The same applies to "boys" and "men." I think that in very casual conversation with people you know well, it doesn't matter what you say as long as it isn't sexist. But in formal situations or with people you don't know well you should use "men" or "guys" for over 18 and same with "women" 18.

Good luck! George
