Can it get better?

Visitor's Question:
I have been with my boyfriend for over a year now. For about half of that time I have been living with him and his parents. It's been a rocky road for myself because I graduated college, have had huge difficulties finding a job, not to mention adjusting to a new household environment not of my own making. I would say that since we moved in together, we have had an intense fight maybe once every 1 or 2 weeks. From my end, I have been more touchy and vulnerable simply because i am unhappy with my personal situation regarding lack of job and privacy, which definitely contributes to the fighting. From his side though, he is definitely a provoker (ie he likes pushing buttons), which definitely grates on me, and he doesn't like talking about anything negative. It's hard to communicate with him regarding anything vaguely emotional. Hence, most of our fights are based on complete misunderstandings. I'm afraid it's too late now and I keep wondering if the old saying "it will never get any better" is really true. He thinks the fighting will only continue or get worse and wants to end it, even though we are still in love. Can we save our relationship? If I moved back with my parents for a few months while i get my career sorted out, could that help improve our situation? Any advice would be wonderful...me and this guy have so much potential and it's all getting wasted over stupidty. Thanks.

Our Suggestion:
It's worth a shot.

Move back in with your parents and see what develops. Once you have a job and your own place, perhaps the fighting will become less of a problem.

Good luck! George
