I might have delayed too long

Visitor's Question:
Before I tell you my problem, I want to give a little bit of background on this girl. My family knows who she is because her mom was friends with my aunt, and actually stood in during her wedding many years ago, so in tern, they are kind of a "distant" family friend. They also go to my mom's vet clinic for their animals. I did not know her until I went to my high school, and unfortunately, she is a year older than me (I am a junior and she is a senior) . We have not really been friends though until recently, when both me and her coincidentally became part of the schools bowling team.

The past month, she has been giving me a lot more attention than any other person, calling my name out in the halls, coming up with "secret" handshakes, and joking around with me will little catch phrases, the most common one being "I see you" and smiling.

Earlier this week, due to poor planning on the schools part, they announced a dance one week before hand. Although probably no more than 40 people will show up and it does not seem that fun at all, I am almost 100% sure that she wanted me to ask her. On Monday I was prepared to ask, and I kept telling myself that that day was the day. Needless to say, it is friday afternoon/night, the dance is tomorrow, and I did not ask her.

Everyday I made an excuse, or did not have much of an opportunity, and every single day, she became more and more quiet, and I have not seen her since yesterday (She might have been sick today, not sure) . I feel terrible that I could let such an opportunity slip away, especially when she is one of the most amazing girls I have met in my life, and one of the very few that liked me.

I know it is too late to ask her too the dance, but I am hoping that since it was so poorly organized in general (1 week notice, crowded gym, hot, smelly, small, non formal, and there is no tarp so you have to wear tennis shoes or socks) that I might still have a chance.

Now that you know my story, I guess it is time for the questions.

1) How can I get myself to ask her? I go in confident, but then when it is time, my heart beats at 100 mph, I put my head down and walk away before even saying hi. Even someone who I know so well, I just can't do it.

2) Do I still have a chance? She is still a friend, and probably always will be, but have I ended all chances of a greater relationship?

3) I am thinking of asking her to a movie on Saturday (next week, not tomorrow). Is this a good idea?

Our Suggestion:
Suck up your gut and tell her you are sorry you didn't ask her to the dance and that you would like to take her to a movie.

Do it Monday--no excuses.

You only get one life to live so you damn well better do it right.

Good luck! George

p.s. the dance is tonight, right? Call her now and ask her... if she can't go at least she will be happy you asked. And if she says no, you can ask her to go to a movie.
