N, M and A

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I'm kinda starting to have a liking for this girl, N, whom I work with. N also happens to be an ex-schoolmate whom I never talked to, or even barely noticed at school. She was the one who recognised me first, when she saw me during my first day on the job. I didn't even remember her. I do now, though. Anyway, N currently has a boyfriend, M, who works at the same place as us, and is a close friend of mine. Plus, she recently mentioned to me that at school, my best friend, A, had a thing for her. I have mentioned about N to A before, and A said N had a thing for HIM. I'm not really sure who has a thing for who now, but one thing's for sure: A and N had a history together. Yesterday, N asked me out for lunch, instead of going with M, although he was around. I don't know if M knows about it, though. Anyway, my question is, what do I do about this, 'cos I keep thinking about N, but at the same time I don't wanna break N and M's relationship, or me and A's friendship by going out with someone whom A currently, in his own words, "hates". Help me. Thanks.

Our Suggestion:
N and M are a thing now so she is off-limits as a love object.

It's ok to accept an invitation to lunch as long as M doesn't mind.

Tell A that you are interested in N and hope that that doesn't bother him.

Tell N that she is nice and you like her but you know she is with M.

This will clue her into the fact that you are available to her if she splits up with M.

Good luck! George
