Are there really men like this???

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
O.k. I feel completely crazy for sending this, but I need an opinion from someone that does not know me. I watched a movie a few months back called P.S. I Love You and fell in love with Gerard Butler's character. His character is EXACTLY the guy I am looking for (but of course I don't want him to die). But seriously, is there really a guy out there like that, that has all of the qualities like Gerard's character or is it because the producers want that leading man to be so appealing that people will like the movie? Where are the guys like this, do they really exist? I feel like I have been single long enough (five years) but I don't want to be searching forever for my "Gerry" knowing that a guy like this does not exist. Or maybe I am setting my standards too high, but I don't want it to come to a point where I end up settling, again.

P.S. I am so glad I came across this site, I was actually looking for a poem and found you instead! It looks like you guys work hard, thank you! But I do think the age ranges a little off.

Our Suggestion:
I didn't see the movie, but know of it.

Let's crunch some numbers:

3,000,000 people in US
1,500,000 are men
300,000 are in your age range
150,000 are unmarried
30,000 are good guys
25,000 are straight

So, you have 25,000 guys worth considering. Is one your "Gerry?"
Analyze "Gerry" and see what attracts you. Be straight with yourself.
Did he have a rather decent salary? Was he emotionally strong? Was he
intelligent? Is height/weight a factor? Color of eyes. Race. Status. Living
arrangements. Has good friends of similar tastes. Good relatives. Children or not. Education. Drugs/alcohol/tobacco. Sexual compatibility. Similar goals. Wants children. Athletic. Musical.

You get the idea. Out of the 25,000 my guess there are 2,500 candidates left and they are probably excellent candidates. Is Gerry one of them? Probably.

How to you find and filter these 2,500? There is no good way considering they are spread all over the US. Maybe you should join a dozen of those matchmaking groups and start working your way through. Be ruthless... if the candidate fails to match any significant test then cross them off.

Of course, "Gerry" will be selective, so you have to hope you will pass his tests.

Now you have a process. Look for your "Gerry" and hope he wants you.

Good luck! George
