Does the senior like me, or is he just goofing around?

Visitor's Question:
Okay, so I have just started at a new, private, catholic school. It's co-ed. I've joined the debate team. One of the captains of the debate team happen to be this pretty good looking, funny, and intelligent senior. This is the kid that all the teachers love, and he can get away with anything in school. He's a really good kid though. He likes flirting mildly with the freshman girls (I am one). But my friend pointed out that he does a lot more flirting with me. He holds my hands sometimes, he hugs me, he grabs my butt. Now, before you think he's just another horny senior, it's not like that. He's a virgin, and he knows that it's all in good fun. I don't mind it, really. It's not that bad.

Anyway, my other friend that's a year older than me really likes me, and he's really good friends with this senior. So it's understandable that the senior flirts with me in front of him sometimes just to make him laugh. But, he does it when the kid isn't around too. This kid is like a god at our school. Totally unattainable, and all the lowerclassmen are totally intimidated by him. Last night, he sent me a text message, saying it was my ex-boyfriend. I didn't have his number. He confessed it was him after a few texts, and told me that his number was his Christmas present to me.

He's also the captain of another co-ed school team, which he wanted me to join. I joined, but not just because he's captain. Now, I see him a lot more than I used to, and he's been talking to me a lot more. I know that's not a whole lot of info to go off of, but I need help determining his signals. He stares at me sometimes in the one class we share, and he flirts with me more than any other of the girls. He also talks to me, too, like in a normal way. But sometimes, when we're talking, he'll fidget a bit, and always be constantly moving or swaying. But he keeps direct eye contact.

There's so many reasons why he wouldn't (or couldn't) like me. I'm a freshman, he's a senior. One of his good friends likes me. He thinks that I like the friend, too. It's pretty much illegal, from the age difference. But he flirts despite that stuff. So...can you tell me what his deal is?

Thanks!

Our Suggestion:
You didn't mention another reason why it might not work out... he is going to college next fall and you aren't. Also your parents might not like it.

My advice is to enjoy the flirting and friendship but leave it at that. You pointed out the numerous problems with trying to become his girlfriend. Apparently you are quite attractive so you will have no trouble finding boyfriends more your age.

Good luck! George
