Visitor's Question:
There is a girl at school that I have had my eye on, she's very pretty and I would like to get to know her better and maybe be her boyfriend someday. The only problem is that I don't talk to her at all. The only thing I know about her is her name. The other problem is that im not sure I measure up to her "standards" of boyfriend material because she's on the popular side. I really don't have a chance to see or talk to her, and when I do see her she is surrounded by her friends and I don't wanna aske her in front of her friends because of fear of rejection. I wanna ask her out to lunch or dinner to get to know her better but I feel that she would reject me because she doesn't know me well and she would feel as if it were a date and my looks don't help at all. How can I go about asking her out to get to know her better (outside of school) without her being pressured into thinking its a date and being weirded out? And where would be a good place to take her, were we can talk and get to know each other better?

Our Suggestion:
First thing to do is to start saying hello to her. Whenever you pass her in the hall, smile, look her in the eyes and say in a clear voice "Hi" plus her name. She will be surprised and maybe not reply the first time but keep doing it. If she doesn't ever reply then cross her off your list because she isn't the kind of person you want to be with.

If you develop a closer friendship then ask her out to lunch or a dinner where you can talk and get to know her better. Say it isn't a date but just a friendship thing. Don't worry about getting rejected... maybe she has a boyfriend or maybe she is too busy. Just don't worry about it. There is a very old saying: "Faint heart never won fair lady." It means "have guts."

Good luck! George
