I Worry About How I Look

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
My problem is that every time I look myself on the mirror I think that I am not handsome. My mum says that I am but I think all mothers say the same for their son-daughter. Also some not relatives people have said it such as my headteacher or even people I see for first time and I meet them because of my parents. But this (that I am handsome) isn't said from younger girls. I think that when they see me (I'm a good student) they take me for idiot because I read. I also have asked from two girls to go out and they rejected me. Why????

I have to say that when I am with a girl which I like I feel unconvenient and anxiety. I always worry not to say anything not so good (joke etc) so that I don't say much. But I try!

Our Suggestion:
I think you're a little obsessed about what you look like!! Obviously people are telling you you look nice. And one of the MOST important things you learn in the world is in the end it really does not matter that much how you look. I know handsome guys who are sad and alone. I know 'normal looking' guys who have tons of girlfriends and are very happy.

Flirting and dating is about what you ARE, not about being a certain shape or size. Sure, MTV might try to tell you that looks are everything. But believe me, if you start dating someone and they are a total jerk, you are going to abandon them quickly.

It sounds like you are asking girls out before they get a chance to know you. You always should get to know a girl and really be a good friend to her before asking her out. That way she knows you and trusts you. It's very common for a girl to say no when a strange guy asks her out - she doesn't trust him enough to say yes.

and the more you learn about flirting, the more you'll realize that it is not about looks - it's how you treat people that counts.
