Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I have started hanging out with this girl who you might say is kindof the minor equivalent of "the one that got away". Someone managed to get to her before I did, however, they broke up before the end of the summer, perhaps a month ago. Now we work together and even live in the same building and so spend a lot of time together. I want to start dating her, however, I know that it is important that she is ready following a long term relationship. I am trying to decide if I should ask her, as well as how to go about doing so. I basically don't want to miss out again. What do I do?

Our Suggestion:
Don't put pressure on her to start dating.

Instead, ask her out for dinner as friends and you will be able to tell if she is attracted to you and ready for dating. If it isn't obvious after the first time out, wait a week or two and try again.

You can even bring up the subject of how she is feeling after breaking up. Does she still have feelings for the other guy, was the break-up smooth? These are the things that will give you a clue about how to proceed.

Definitely do take action with her... of course if you don't you will never know. And, for example, she may like you a lot.

So give it a try! George
