Asking a Guy Out

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
HELP ME!!!! I have been flirting w/ this guy that works at a store next to the one I work at. He's soo nice and returns the flirting. Goes out of his way to help me...will open up a register just for me to check out. The constant waiting by the door to say hi.

This has been going on for a few months. I am getting impatient and really want him to ask me out. So I am thinking I should be the one taking the initiative here. But how do I go about this? How can you tell if someone does like you or if they're just real friendly? Are guys wusses when it comes to asking out just as much as girls are? We don't hang out I don't even know his last name. So what do I do???

Our Suggestion:
It's great that you guys connect so well! And definitely guys and girls are equally nervous about asking people out, it's very normal. There is NO reason for you to twiddle your thumbs waiting for him to make the first move. This isn't the middle ages here, girls ask guys out at least half the time!

So make it non-stressful and do something casual. Don't say "want to go on a date with me?" Say "I want to go see Master & Commander this weekend but can't find anyone to go with me. This sucks, I really want to see it." That gives him a clear opening to offer to go, as a friend. That way it's a friend-helping-friend situation and not a formal-date thing. If he says no, that's fine! But now he knows that you're interested in friendly time together and the next offering could come from either of you.
