Approaching a Girl

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I have had a huge crush on a girl for a pretty long time, but I have had trouble telling her how I feel or asking her out on a date. I really just have trouble talking to her in general because she is kind of shy and I get nervous around her. This may be due to the fact that I am sort of afraid of being rejected and, to be honest, am a little insecure.

Last year I really liked another girl and I just flat out told her how I felt. That did not go over really well so I would like to know if there is a better way to show a girl that I feel this way.

How do I overcome the nervousness and fear of rejection and make the right approach?

Our Suggestion:
Everybody fears rejection! That's quite normal. You don't just go leaping into asking someone out that you don't even talk with yet. I have a lot of advice on the topic here -

but in essence you need to build up a friendship first. Flirt, talk, be friendly. The more you talk with her, the easier it will get. When you guys are friendly, then going to a movie or something with her will be a normal, fun thing you do. But you need to be able to talk first before you can go somewhere with her! Otherwise it'll be awkward and uncomfortable, and she'll never want to do it again.
