Asking Her to the Dance

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
There is a friend at school that I like. Everytime I pass by her in the halls, it give me "butterflies in my stomach". I've known her for about a year, but the past few months, we've been talking alot more. I think she might like me, but I don't know for sure. There is a Valentine's banquet coming up in school and I want to ask her to go with me. I feel kinda shy and I want to ask her over AIM, but I think that asking her face to face would be better. The banquet is coming up this February. When I talk to her face to face, I just am too shy to ask her. I am running out of time and I need some advice quick before she gets taken!!!

Our Suggestion:
Always ask in person!! This is NOT the kind of thing you want to ask over instant messenger. Jeez, would you ask someone to marry you over IM? A relationship is about a personal connection between two people. You have to show the girl that you care about her enough to spend the night with her at a dance. How can you show that if you don't care enough about her to actually ask her to her face?

If you've been talking, that's great! Increase your flirtation with her and then, when she's alone with you sometime, ask her if she's going to the dance with anybody. That should give her a pretty clear signal that you're interested and based on how she answers you, you'll know if it's a good time to ask her to go with you.

A relationship that's worth having is worth working for. So don't just sit back and hope it happens. Put in the time and energy to MAKE it happen.
