Why Flirt if it's Not Serious?

Visitor's Question:
What is the true meaning of romance? I had a male friend of mine to tell me that he's romancing me. But at the same time, he doesn't want a serious relationship. We're always talking and can literally talk about anything. We really enjoy spending time together and talking. If he's not looking for a serious relationship then why is he trying to romance me?

Our Suggestion:
In essence you're asking, why flirt if it's not serious. Life isn't about every single step leading to marriage and life-long commitment. A lot of what life is about is enjoying the day to day that you have, without having to assume This Is It.

There could be many reasons your guy isn't ready to think long term. But heck, even though 13 year olds aren't ready to get married and have kids, they still have great fun going on dates and spending time together. I assume you two aren't 13, but it's the same theory. He likes you, he likes to be with you. Sometimes you have to ask yourself, isn't that enough for now?

Maybe someday it'll lead to something more. Maybe someday when he has a better job or can afford a house or whatever the other milestones are in his mind. Romance is a fun part of flirting! If your immediate aim is to get married and have kids, it might be best to move on and find a different boyfriend. But if you don't have a ticking clock that is driving you to immediate action, I would enjoy your time with him. Having a guy that is also a great friend that loves to flirt is pretty special!
