My Girlfriend is Neglecting Me

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
What should i do if my girlfriend is too attached with her friends and spends little time with me?

Our Suggestion:
Every one of us has different parts of our lives - work, school, family, friends, partners. We have to find a way to balance all of them so that each gets the appropriate amount of time. It's a skill we all have to learn.

Some partners are happy seeing each other 3 hours a week, while others want to be together 30 hours. So there's no right or wrong answer about how much time she spends with you. She apparently has one idea of what is enough and you have another. So you need to sit down with her, talk about your various points of view and then find a compromise.

It's important for her to have her friends. But it's also important that she put time and energy into your relationship. You need to ask yourself why she's choosing her friends over you. Do they have more fun together? What is she doing with them vs what she's doing with you? Maybe it's time to find some new and interesting things to do together - get into a new hobby together, get into a film watching marathon, *something*. You can't just expect to be together sitting and watching TV all the time and have that be something she actively looks forward to doing, for example. It's both of your responsibilities to keep your time together fresh and fun!
