Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I met a boy this summer with whom I fell in love. When September rolled around, however, we were forced to leave for different schools. I asked him what he wanted to do, and he said that he thought the distance would be too difficult for the year, but that he still loved me and that we should pick up next summer where we had left off. We split up. I came back home twice in the fall and saw him, but he was incredibly distant--in fact, he barely even spoke to me. I will be home in three weeks, and thinking of summer makes me think about him. I still love him.

I don't know what kind of advice I'm asking for. I really love him. I know that it's unrealistic to expect us to get back together. I guess I just wish there was some way for me to let him know what I'm feeling....but we haven't spoken since November. I should be over him by now--we broke up at the end of August. Can you give me some way to resolve this?

Our Suggestion:
It's very common for people to cool down when distance is involved. It's very heart on the heart to go through the highs and lows of that kind of relationship. So sometimes people withdraw to shield themselves.

I would give it your best shot when he comes back - be friendly and fun. Show him that this can in fact work.
