Visitor's Question:
my girlfriend says she's admired by people whom are in school only. and then she's still in love with her exboyfriend, but only wants to be his friend. Should i trust that?

she liked me alot at first, but because i'm not in college right now she said she doesnt admire me as much.

and is it true that if somebody breaks up, we have to completely break off all contact in order to be just friends

Our Suggestion:
Each one of us has our own ideas about what is important in a mate. If someone really likes cats, they probably wouldn't want to date a cat-hater. If someone else loved to travel, they probably wouldn't want to date a person who refused to leave the house. Dating is about being with your best friend and enjoying your time together, so having interests in common really helps that.

It sounds like education is really important to your girlfriend. I know a lot of people who feel that way. Again, it's an interest thing. If one of you is always taking classes, and learning, and enjoys learning, and the other one of you isn't interested in learning new things, that's a disconnect that's hard to overcome.

If you break off all contact, that's not being friends. Two people who never talk to each other aren't friends, they're strangers. Friends are people who talk to each other, enjoy each other's company.

As far as being friends with an ex, yes, that's very common and quite a good thing. Your ex was a great friend for a while, and there's no reason you have to lose the friendship just because the romance didn't work out.
