He's Jealous - Should I Leave?

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Is 4 years too long in a relationship where the boyfriend shows jealousy, passive, but jealous?

When your gut tells you somethings not fitting in the relationship, what are the signs to see?

Should I walk away from this jealous man? Hes great in so many ways!

Is a man with lots of insecurities an unhealthy love?

Our Suggestion:
You say he's passively jealous. That's a pretty vague statement. Does that mean he says "Oh I guess you'll leave me for that sexy co-worker of yours" over dinner? Does it mean he gets grumpy when the cute waiter flirts with you at the restaurant? Does it mean he nags you all night for wearing the slinky dress because other men might look at you and like you?

Jealousy can be like water torture where it's not bad at the beginning but it slowly eats away at a relationship. It sounds like that's the state you're in. This jealousy is bothering you enough to make you consider leaving him, even though it seems that other things are OK.

So talk to him! The key to ANY relationship is communication and trust. You have to be able to share your concerns and fears. So sit down with him - I have advice on how to do that here -

and express what bothers you. Ask him what is bothering HIM! He can't like it to be this insecure about the woman he loves. Something about the relationship must be bothering him for him to be this way. He doesn't trust you fully for whatever reason. You need to help him build his trust, and to get over his insecurities.
