Visitor's Question:
I have been dating my best friend for over a year now. We see each other several times a week and now that it's summer i see him even more. We have our seperate lives too, but we are very much a part of each other's lives. Both of our families approve of and our relationship and are happy that we are together because thay realize that we are good for each other. It feels like we have known each other forever and we talk all the time . I love him as a person and no matter what i want the best for him (even if that means he would be happier if he was with someone else.) I want the best for him. He doesnt pressure me into anything he simply wants me to be happy also. He's perfect for me it seems and he says the same about me ...we recognize each other's differences and i even love that we are different we have soo many things in common but our differences are what help keep things interesting and i love that. We are completely comfortable with each other and we can just be ourselves. It seems to both us us that we are in love. But at 16 can you really be in love can you find your soul mate that young? are people really that lucky?i mean realistically most 15-16-17 yr olds dont have realtionships that last but could it be that we are an exception to the rule? thatnks for your time

Our Suggestion:
Well, a little definition - "in love" is that giddy wacky feeling when you first meet someone and can't get them out of your mind. "loving" means caring and deep admiration and commitment. You can easily have one without the other, but it's best when you have both at once.

Yes, you are the exception to the rule. Love can happen at any age, but you really need to have something special for it to hit at such an early age. But you have all the signs - closeness, caring for one another's happiness, enjoying common interests and celebrating each other's differences, being yourselves with each other... Sounds to me like you truly love one another.

I'm really happy for you. It doesn't come along often. Enjoy it.
