Asking Out a Member of my Group

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
Im 16 and i like this girl in my group. She has broken up with her boyfriend, which is also in the group and is one of my better friends. They have both said thay they are over each other but i think my friend still likes her and knows he will never be with her again.

Now that i like her i dont know how to approach her because we're a pretty flirty group and ive tried before and it didnt achieve much. i also dont know if she likes me, which makes it harder. and if i ask her to go someplace just the two of us, the other group members will give me crap and she might no like it and i just dont know what to do. can you help me please?

Our Suggestion:
This is really common, because the people you get interested in are often people that you hang around with generally, that you get to know. So it's always a careful dance of getting her attention without having the others tease you too much.

Still, as with any group, there are always ways to have quiet time with her alone. You don't all spontaneously appear together at once. So be by her class when she gets out, be around to chat with her when she gets to school. If you have access to a car, offer to give her rides places. If she does, ask for a ride. Valentine's Day is coming up - get the girls in your group little presents, but get her something a bit more special.
