Visitor's Question:
The other day a guy came up to me and gave me a tongue ring and told me it was a late christmas present well i gave him a hug and went about. Well i thought it would have been funny to mess with my boyfriends head a little bit so i called him up and told him "thank you so much for the flowers and the tongue ring and for him to give me a call when ever he got message." Well about 30 min later he called and took all the credit! I kept asking him different things about it and I kept catching him in so many other lies!

Finally i couldn't take it anymore and confronted him about it. He told me that he was going to tell me but sence i haven't been happy for the past week that he just didn't want to bring me down at that point in time.

The question is though if i would have really got flowers sent to me and it wasn't him i couldn't have told if he was lieing or not?????? If he would lie about something as stupid as that what would keep him lieing about anything else? Is my boyfriend a compulsive liar? PLEASE HELP!

Our Suggestion:
OK, let me get this straight. You decide it'll be fun to lie to your boyfriend and be dishonest with him. And in return he plays along with your lie which you are perpetuating. And you're upset that he lied to you in return to your deliberate lie?

If you're wondering why he would lie about something as "stupid" as a tongue ring, the question is why would you lie to him about it in the first place :) Relationships are about honesty and trust. If you're thinking it's fun to actively lie to him and make him jealous, it seems something is pretty wrong with the relationship to start with. Lying and jealousy should be things you're actively avoiding in a relationship, not something you do for fun.

Anyway, I'd make a resolution not to condone lying in the future, and I would apologize to him for causing the whole situation and talk to him about how important honesty is. It seems to be something you both need to focus on! The only way you both will have a long, solid relationship is if you both are actively honest and communicative with each other, and both actively talk about why lying is harmful.
