Girl has a boyfriend

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
This is a little long and I'm sorry from start! (I'm 21 she is 20) From the day I met this girl (about a year ago), I've been interested. We began to talk and studied for class some. I have her AOL Sn and saw little clues that she had a boyfriend, however I never brought him up until a few months ago when she commented on her screen name away message about "Will you be there for me?" and stuff like this. So, I finally brought him up and asked what was going on. She then went on to say how she has had a BF for 2years but they hardly see each other (once a week) and he didn't really take her out. Me...trying to be a good friend gave her advice and told her to try to tell him how she feels and so on (I thought they were going to break up for sure). However, they did not and she occasionally brings him up when we are together. I know she is interested in me (but I don’t think she is aware of it) because of how she acts and how she talks to me (she tells me stuff like.."these people say you are a great guy". I tried bringing up another girl to see how she would act and she didn't like it at all...tried to avoid it. We are even going out Thursday to bowl with some of my friends and yet she still is hanging on to this other guy. I like her a lot, heck...love her a lot and people say (w/o me asking) we look/act great together (really comfortable). Please, What should I do? Just stay friends until she wakes up and dumps this other guy? Thanks for a wonderful site and I hope to hear from you soon!

Our Suggestion:
If you haven't made it clear to her, tell her how you feel. You will run the risk of her backing away from you. But in the long run it is better to get things out in the open.

Tell her you won't try to be more than a good friend as long as she is dating, but that it is very important for you to remain good friends.

From what you have told me, I think she will eventually end up with you.

Best wishes!
George
