Visitor's Question:
I'm a 27 year old man and I'm close platonic friends with a 17 year old young lady. I'm very physically attracted to her (I have and will obey the law, don't jump to conclusions!) and I care about her so much and I feel like I'm in love with her. Recently she told me she's dating someone (a 22 year old guy, mind you). I immediately said I was jealous to her, she responded by telling me not to be. I did tell her in a letter I wouldn't be jealous, but I lied, because I get so upset and depressed when I think about her and that dude. I don't want our current friendship to be injured by my jealousy and envy for the other dude. Please tell me how to grieve her being romantic with someone who isn't me. I just want her to be mine, but it hurts so bad she is giving herself to someone else. Help me deal with that.

Our Suggestion:
You are naturally upset and depressed about this situation.

You should see a counselor to get help dealing with it. You will get good professional advice that will go way beyond what I can write here (and I am not a professional therapist anyhow).

You should start becoming honest with this girl. Check out your state laws to see what the legal age is... in many states it is 16. If you aren't honest with her there is little chance that your relationship will change to your benefit. Honesty helps build trust, friendship, attraction, through the powerful tool of communications.

I wish you the best of luck in this tough situation!
George
