I Really Like my Friend

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I like one of my really really good friends. I moved away when I was 7 (7 years ago) and his family would come and visit my family a lot, so we would see each other every now and then, but back then they would come every few weeks to every few months now to every few years. Once during one of those visits he told me that I was like a sister to him. Whenever I see him now it's really hard not to show that I like him. How can I hang around him and talk to him without making it so obvious that I like him? Please help me. Thank you.

Our Suggestion:
It's really, really common for good friends and best friends to fall in love. Friends often love each other anyway, it's part of friendship. You care about each other, you enjoy spending time together. So the line to cross to be romantically in love instead of just platonically in love is a pretty small line.

Hopefully he knows you like him, you're friends! So it's just that you like him a bit more. He likes you too, since he's your friend. So the question is if he's also interested in being a bit closer. Start moving slowly in that direction and see how he responds. If you're good friends you probably already hug each other hello and goodbye. If not, now's a good time to start. That's a normal part of friendship and you can see how he reacts to it. Do more snuggle-sorts of stuff, like tickling him or mock-wrestling. You'll get good responses from these sorts of things. If he's stand-offish, you can just laugh and say you were joking. But if he enjoys it, you can keep going.
