I'm not comfortable with my girlfriend

Suggest Advice

Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
I feel uncomfortable holding my g/f's hand or even putting my arm around her. But when ever I kissed her for the fist time I felt very confident. I even feel uncomfortable sitting beside her. What's the problem?

Our Suggestion:
It sounds like you skipped right over the get-to-be-great-friends step which is so important before you date someone. You NEED to be comfortable with them, being close to them, talking about anything, before you get into dating. It's important for you to start working on that now!

It's all about being comfortable with each other in general. If you're dating, you should be able to tell each other what you're thinking, what is bothering you, what you like, what you don't like. Otherwise little problems will boil up into big ones and drive you apart without any chance to fix them.

So build up that comfort level. Sit next to her. Give her a hug when you see her or when you say hello and goodbye. It shouldn't just be about the "sexual" things, which is the *added bonus* of dating. It should be about the "friendly" things which are the *key* of dating. Work on that normal contact, and make it a normal part of your life. The more comfortable you are together, the more you can talk about and resolve issues you face.
